Public procurement represents an estimated 60 billion EUR in Austria every year. An increasing amount is spent via “sustainable procurement”, driven by the Austrian Action Plan for Sustainable Public Procurement, as well as on innovative solutions.

Austrian procurement law "Bundesvergabegesetz (BVergG)” covers the vast majority of regulations related to public tenders, i.e. it incorporates the regulations of all EU public procurement directives in one code. Additionally, Austria follows a tradition of raising the national threshold using special temporary rules. This means that more government contracts can be published only within Austria, instead of being visible on TED.
